Main Directions
Creation and study of free living nitrogen-fixing microorganisms and actinomycetes collection.
Study of nitrogen fixing and assimilating enzymes (glutamine synthetase, glutamate dehydrogenase) physical - chemical properties, activity, and synthesis regulation pathways and function in higher plants (leguminous cultures: soy, kidney bean, cereal cultures: maize, grasses ryegrass).
Study of plant structural and functional changes under different stress conditions including envioronment polluted by heavy metals and organic toxicants.
Creation of biological fertilizers enriched by nitrogen fixations.
Elaboration of the methods for biological control of plant bacteriosis by using bacteriophage.
Research Activity
The collection of actinomycetes, from strains isolated from various soil-climatic zones of Georgia has been created. Actinomycetes capability to produce various hydrolyzing enzymes and degrade environmental organic pollutants has been established.
Nitrogen assimalation pathways have been established, enzymes, participating in nitrogen fixation and assimilation processes and regulatory pathways of their action in free living nitrogen-fixing microorganisms and higher plants.
The role of enzymes (glutamine synthetase, glutamate dehydrogenase) participating in nitrogen assimilation during detoxification of organic toxicants has been revealed.
By the action of microorganisms several types of biological fertilizers have been obtained from such natural formation as sapropeli.
Bacteriophage against tomato bacterial black spot has been obtained.
